Chemical Peel

No matter our age, we all experience different kinds of skin concerns, such as acne or wrinkles. Chemical peels can deeply exfoliate your skin, improving its texture, appearance, and elasticity, sometimes in just one treatment. If you wish to refine the surface of your skin with a chemical peel, contact Dr. Christopher R. Hove serving Main Line, PA.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a skin care treatment designed to refine the texture of your skin through deep exfoliation and subsequent peeling. This dermatology procedure can make your face look younger and smoother.

Achieve Striking Results Without Plastic Surgery or Microdermabrasion

Cosmetic surgery is not always necessary to reduce the appearance of fine lines, just as microdermabrasion isn't necessary to improve scarring. If you have minimal wrinkles, sun damage, or acne scars, then you may be able to achieve noticeable results from peeling alone.

If you don't qualify for a chemical peel, we offer other nonsurgical dermatology procedures that can address your skin concerns.

Hove Center for Facial Plastic Surgery Offers Two Effective Kinds of Chemical Peels

Our office serving the residents of Main Line features two different types of chemical peels to refine your skin texture, fine lines, and acne scarring.

Glycolic Acid Peel

Our glycolic acid chemical peel is a medium strength peel that is stronger than the peels you can buy over-the-counter. This alpha-hydroxy acid peel exfoliates the outer and middle layers of the skin, smoothing fine lines, clearing acne, reducing blackheads, and lightening the appearance of scars. It may also help refine skin pigment changes.

TCA Chemical Peel

A TCA peel, also known as a trichloroacetic acid peel, clears away dead skin cells to reveal a newer, clearer layer of skin. TCA peels have been proven to clear acne and melasma, but may also be able to address other skin concerns like wrinkles and scarring.

Request a TCA Chemical Peel Consultation

If skin care products alone cannot improve your acne, a chemical peel may provide results.

Improve Your Acne With a Chemical Peel

Both teenagers and adults can experience acne and blackheads. While it is a common skin condition for people of all ages, it may still cause a degree of insecurity.

If you have tried other treatments like salicylic acid cleansers and over-the-counter peels, but have had little success in reducing the appearance of your acne, blackheads, and scarring, you may benefit from a professional chemical peel.

Glycolic acid and TCA chemical peels work as a stronger exfoliant, which allows them to provide more dramatic results. If you opt for a deeper peel, you may also receive your desired results in fewer treatments.

How Long Will It Take To Heal
After My Chemical Peel?

Though the length of your recovery period will depend on the depth of your chemical peel, your treatment area should heal within a week or two. During this time, you can expect redness, tightness, and flaking skin.

Because chemical peels can result in redness and flaking, be sure to request your appointment long before any big events to give yourself plenty of time to heal.

Proper skin care after your peel is essential to achieving the best results.

How to Take Care of Your Skin After a Chemical Peel

After your chemical peel in our office serving Main Line and beyond, Dr. Hove will provide you with aftercare instructions. These instructions will include:

Stay Out of the Sun

Your skin is especially sensitive after a chemical peel, and the sun may cause damage to your skin as you are healing. Try to avoid the sun as much as possible and wear sunscreen every day to protect your skin.

Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking enough water will help your skin stay hydrated and healthy throughout the healing process.

Adjust Your Skin Care Routine

After your treatment, you should avoid exfoliation and harsh skin care products. Dr. Hove may have you apply certain products to aid in your recovery, but this will be explained before your appointment.

Deciding between an in-office peel and over-the-counter options?

Choose Safer Treatment

While over-the-counter options like salicylic acid peels are cheaper than professional chemical peels, they can pose genuine dangers. You are likely not trained to administer peels, so if you use the wrong peel for your skin or apply it incorrectly, you may become seriously injured.

At Hove Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, your peel will be made of ingredients for your skin type and concerns, and it will be administered by a qualified individual like a licensed aesthetician. This is the best way to get safe and effective results.
