Rhinoplasty for the Bridge of the Nose Can Work Wonders
The team at our Philadelphia facial plastic surgery center understands that minor adjustments can have major impact. This is particularly true with rhinoplasty (nose job surgery), which can help enhance overall facial appearance.
The bridge of the nose tends to be the source of self-consciousness and cosmetic issues. We'd like to take a moment to consider rhinoplasty performed on the bridge of the nose and how it can improve a person's overall appearance.
How the Bridge of the Nose Affects Appearance
The nose is one of the most prominent facial features, so it should come as no surprise that the bridge of the nose can have a major impact on your appearance. If you have a crooked nose, a prominent bump on the bridge, this can lead to serious issues with facial aesthetics. Similarly, a very broad or narrow bridge of the nose can lead to issues with facial symmetry and overall appearance.
Issues with the bridge of the nose lead many people to consider rhinoplasty. It's a relatively minor surgery, all things considered, but a mild adjustment of the bridge of the nose can have a dramatic impact on your appearance.
Ideal Candidates for Bridge Rhinoplasty
The best candidates for bridge rhinoplasty are people who experience issues with the overall appearance of their nose. The issues with the bridge may be genetic in nature or they could be the result of injury and trauma. Whatever the case may be, bridge rhinoplasty can make a significant difference in a person's facial appearance.
It's important that patients bee in good overall health and not suffer from health conditions that could make a surgical procedure a major health risk. Patients should also have realistic expectations about what a rhinoplasty can achieve and what the recovery process entails.
What to Expect During Bridge Rhinoplasty
During bridge rhinoplasty, general anesthesia will be used to help reduce anxiety and discomfort for patients during the surgical procedure. A surgeon will work carefully to adjust the bridge. The nature of the procedure will differ from patient to patient depending on their needs, with some patients able to undergo closed rhinoplasty (all incisions inside of the nostrils) rather than open rhinoplasty.
For bumps on the bridge or to make the bridge narrower, some of the hard tissue will be carefully scraped away. To increase the broadness of the nose, special grafts may be used to alter the shape of the bridge.
During the consultation process, we can go over the various options available for treating the bridge of the nose. All surgeries will be carefully tailored to meet your needs.
Recovering from Bridge Rhinoplasty
Following rhinoplasty of the bridge, patients will experienced discomfort, bruising, and swelling around the nose and eye area. This is normal, and roughly two weeks off of work is recommended. The use of pain relievers and cold compresses can help manage the soreness, bruising and swelling. Strenuous physical activities need to be avoided for the first few weeks after surgery, and patients will want to avoid sneezing and blowing their nose given how delicate the bridge can be.
We will provide more detailed post-op instructions to patients during the consultation process.
The Results of Bridge Rhinoplasty
The overall results of bridge rhinoplasty are great. As we noted above, even a relatively minor adjustment to the shape and width of the bridge of the nose can enhance overall facial appearance. When viewed straight on and in profile, the curves and contours of the face can be enhanced in significant ways. We can discuss your aesthetic goals and what they may look like during your visit to the practice.
